TorqueMaster to Standard Torsion Conversion
TorqueMaster springs hide inside the tube, which is exactly why they're a headache. We convert them to a system you can actually maintain.

- Turnaround
- A TorqueMaster conversion is typically completed in a single visit once the correct spring is on hand.
- Warranty
- 10-year garage door parts warranty
- Trip charge
- $0 trip charge

What the problem looks like
Signs you're dealing with this
The door won't open and there's no visible broken spring
TorqueMaster springs sit inside the torsion tube, so a break isn't obvious the way an exposed coil is. A door that's suddenly heavy with no visible cause is the classic sign.
The cable is loose or unwound on one end
When a TorqueMaster spring fails, the cable on that side often goes slack because the winding unit has let go inside the tube.
You've replaced this spring before
TorqueMaster systems are known for repeat failures. If you're on your second or third, converting is usually the smarter long-term move.
What's included
What you get
- Diagnosis of the enclosed TorqueMaster system
- Removal of the TorqueMaster tube and winding units
- Installation of a standard exposed torsion spring, tube, and hardware sized to your door
- New drums and cables as part of the conversion
- Balancing, tensioning, and full cycle testing
How we do it
Our process
STEP 01Confirm the diagnosis
Because the spring is hidden, we verify the failure and measure the door so the replacement torsion system is correctly sized.
STEP 02Remove the enclosed system
We take out the TorqueMaster tube and its internal winding units, which is where the reliability problems live.
STEP 03Install standard torsion
We fit an exposed torsion spring on a standard shaft with new drums and cables, a system any technician can inspect and service going forward.
STEP 04Balance and test
We wind to the correct tension, balance the door, and cycle-test it so it floats and holds.

Parts & materials
- Standard torsion spring, shaft, and bearing plates
- New drums and lift cables
- Oil-tempered spring option for longer life and quieter operation
What affects cost
A conversion costs more than swapping a single spring because it replaces the whole system, but it ends the repeat-failure cycle and makes future service simpler and cheaper. We'll explain the trade-off before you decide.
Safety note
Like all torsion work, this involves springs under high tension and is not a DIY job. The enclosed design makes TorqueMaster especially unforgiving to work on without the right tools.

Questions
TorqueMaster Conversion FAQ
What is a TorqueMaster spring?
It's a torsion system where the spring is enclosed inside the torsion tube rather than exposed on a shaft. It was used to give a cleaner look, but the enclosed design is harder to diagnose and prone to repeat failures.
Why convert instead of just replacing the spring?
You can replace a TorqueMaster spring, but many homeowners see it fail again. Converting to a standard exposed torsion system gives you a more reliable, easier-to-service setup that any tech can maintain.
How do I know if I have TorqueMaster?
If your door is heavy or won't open but you can't see a broken coil above it, and the spring appears to be inside a tube rather than wound on a shaft, it's likely a TorqueMaster. We can confirm it on site.
Is the converted system better?
For serviceability and reliability, yes. Exposed torsion springs are the industry standard, are easy to inspect, and are quick to replace when they eventually wear out.
