Garage Door Spring Repair & Replacement
The spring is the muscle of the door. When it goes, the door stops, we get it moving again the same day.

- Turnaround
- Most spring replacements are done in about 30 minutes on site, and common spring sizes are stocked on the truck for same-day service.
- Warranty
- 5-year parts & labor warranty on spring repairs, unless otherwise specified
- Trip charge
- $0 trip charge

What the problem looks like
Signs you're dealing with this
The door won't open at all
A snapped torsion spring leaves the opener straining against the full dead weight of the door, often 150 to 200 lb. The motor hums, the door lifts an inch, then stops.
It opens a foot, then reverses
The opener senses the resistance of an unbalanced door and reverses as a safety response. That's the door protecting you, not a motor fault.
The door feels unusually heavy
Without the spring's counterbalance, the door's weight is no longer supported. Don't force the door or keep running the opener; leave the door down and arrange a repair.
You see a gap in the coil
Look at the spring above the center of the door. A finger-width gap in the black or galvanized coil means it has broken clean through.
What's included
What you get
- Full balance and safety inspection of the door, drums, cables, and bearings
- Removal of the failed spring under controlled tension
- New torsion or extension spring sized to your exact door weight and travel
- Re-tensioning and cycle testing so the door floats and holds at any height
- Lubrication of the spring, bearings, and moving hardware
- A written, itemized estimate before any work begins
How we do it
Our process
STEP 01Weigh and measure the door
Spring strength is set by three things, wire size, inside diameter, and length, expressed in IPPT (inch-pounds per turn). We match the spring to the real weight and travel of your door, not a generic guess.
STEP 02Release the old spring safely
Torsion springs are wound under extreme tension. We unwind the failed spring with winding bars in a controlled, deliberate sequence, never improvised.
STEP 03Install and wind the new spring
We fit a custom oil-tempered spring, wind it to the correct turn count, and set the drums and cables so both sides carry the load evenly.
STEP 04Balance and test
A properly balanced door stays put when stopped halfway. We cycle it, fine-tune the tension, and confirm the opener's force settings are safe.

Parts & materials
- Custom oil-tempered torsion springs (rated for a longer service life and quieter operation)
- Galvanized or coated lift cables matched to the door weight
- Sealed nylon bearings and end bearing plates as needed
What affects cost
Cost depends on the spring type (single vs. dual torsion), the wire size and length your door needs, and whether cables, drums, or bearings also need replacing. We give you an itemized written estimate up front, no surprises, and a $0 trip charge.
Safety note
This is the one repair we ask you not to DIY. A torsion spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury or death if it releases uncontrolled. Winding bars, not screwdrivers, and a trained hand are what keep it safe.

Questions
Spring Repair FAQ
How long do garage door springs last?
Springs are rated in cycles, one open plus one close is a cycle. A standard spring is rated around 10,000 cycles, which is roughly 7 to 10 years for an average household. If you open the door four or five times a day, expect the shorter end of that range.
Should I replace one spring or both?
If your door has two springs and one breaks, we almost always recommend replacing both. They wear at the same rate, so a second break is usually weeks or months away, and replacing both at once saves you a second service call.
Can I use the door with a broken spring?
No. Without the spring's counterbalance the opener is lifting the full weight of the door, which burns out the motor and can drop the door. Disconnect the opener and leave the door down until it's repaired.
Why is my new spring so much quieter?
We fit oil-tempered springs, which run smoother and quieter than the builder-grade springs many doors ship with. Paired with fresh lubrication, most doors are noticeably quieter after the repair.
Do you carry springs on the truck?
Common torsion sizes, yes, which is why most spring jobs are same-day. Oversized or specialty springs may be ordered, and we'll tell you the timeline up front.
What does 'balanced' mean and why does it matter?
A balanced door lifted halfway by hand stays put instead of falling or flying up. Good balance means the springs, not the opener, are doing the work, which protects the motor and everyone underneath the door.
