What the problem looks like
Signs you're dealing with this
Squealing or squeaking
Usually dry rollers, hinges, or bearings. A door that squeals is running metal-on-metal and wearing itself out faster.
Grinding
Grinding from the motor head points to worn opener gears; grinding from the door points to rollers dragging or a track problem.
Rattling and banging
Loose hardware, worn rollers with play in them, or panels flexing. It's rarely serious on its own but it means bolts have backed off.
A loud pop or bang
A single sharp bang is often a spring breaking, check the coil above the door and stop using it if there's a gap.
What's included
What you get
- A full listen-and-inspect pass to locate the actual source of the noise
- Tightening of hinges, brackets, and track fasteners that have loosened
- Roller inspection and replacement where bearings are shot
- Lubrication of springs, bearings, rollers, and hinges with the right product
- Opener drive inspection where the noise is coming from the motor
How we do it
Our process
STEP 01Locate the source
We run the door and isolate whether the noise is the opener, the rollers, the hinges, the springs, or the track, guessing here just replaces the wrong part.
STEP 02Tighten and replace
We snug up the hardware that's loosened from years of vibration and swap out any rollers or hinges that are worn past lubrication.
STEP 03Lubricate correctly
We use a proper garage-door lubricant on the moving parts, not WD-40, which is a solvent and makes squeaks worse a week later.
STEP 04Re-test
We cycle the door and confirm it runs smooth and quiet before we call it done.

Parts & materials
- Nylon rollers (quieter than steel and no lubrication of the track needed)
- Replacement hinges and hardware
- Proper garage-door lubricant for springs, bearings, and hinges
What affects cost
A tune-up-and-lubricate visit is the low end; replacing worn rollers or hinges adds parts. If the noise turns out to be a failing spring or opener gear, we'll price that repair separately and clearly.

Questions
Noisy Door Repair FAQ
Can I just spray WD-40 on it?
Please don't. WD-40 is a solvent and degreaser, it cleans off the lubricant you actually need and the squeak comes back worse. Use a garage-door-specific lubricant, or have us do a proper tune-up.
Which parts make a door quieter?
Nylon rollers are the single biggest upgrade, they run far quieter than steel. Fresh oil-tempered springs, tight hardware, and a belt-drive opener all help too.
Is a noisy door dangerous?
Not always, but noise means something is wearing or loosening. A rattle you ignore today can be a failed roller or a loose bracket later, so it's worth a look.
Why is my door louder in winter mornings?
Cold stiffens the lubricant and the metal contracts slightly, so doors are often noisiest first thing on a cold morning. A proper lubrication service smooths that out.
